Mitch Kirkwood
is an artist and designer based in Kansas City, Missouri. Working within the formal boundaries and methods of furniture making, his recent collection recounts the hero’s journey of utilitarian objects once used as improvised furnishings in his past. Utilizing traditional and modern wood fabrication techniques, Kirkwood transforms these working objects into precious homewares by altering their original function and material composition. Through recollection and reinvention, Kirkwood’s practice sets the permanence of the past against the fallibility and malleability of human memory. Kirkwood recieved his BFA from Kansas City Art Institute in 2011 and currently operates his furniture design and fabrication studio called One Legs The Same in Kansas City, Missouri.

Tommy Lomeli is a Chicano artist from California’s Central Valley, currently working in Kansas City, Missouri, and Lawrence, Kansas. Lomeli’s ceramic work reimagines cultural identity through Mexican American car customization. Through the lens of lowrider aesthetics, he constructs pieces that recall the vehicle as an extension of creative individuality within a larger regional movement. Lomeli studies his cultural heritage through Mesoamerican iconography to better understand modern Chicano resilience. Using contemporary materials to render surface and form, his built vessels challenge conventional methods by reimagining historical concepts and processes. Lomeli recieved his MFA from the University of Kansas and was awarded NCECA’s 2026 Emerging Artist Award.
